After failing to make a mark in the smartphone market, Palm Inc., is seeking a buyer to purchase their company and is inviting bids from interested companies as early as this week, said Bloomberg, which quoted 3 people familiar with the situation.

However, the spokesperson for Palm in Europe declined to comment on the report.

The US based provider of mobile products, which manufactures the Pre and Pixi phones and develops WebOS phone software, has apparently talked to investment banking and securities firms – Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Qatalyst Partners about finding a potential buyer.

The Taiwan based HTC Corp, and Lenovo Group Ltd., which is based in China, are likely to contest for the ailing smartphone maker.

China-based Lenovo group and Taiwan-based HTC group are likely to bid for the loss-making smartphone group.

In its third quarter results last week, the company announced a loss of $22 million/ 13 cents per share. In fact before posting its third-quarter results, palm lowered its forecast on February because of the slower-than-expected sales of its products.

Besides the losses, it also reduced its revenue forecast for the fourth-quarter. Compared to the 305.8 million estimate made by the market analysts, the company is expecting less than $150 million revenue in its fourth quarter.

“Palm’s limited scale, distribution and weak global brand outside the United States all point to a takeover as the next chapter in the Palm story,” said CCS Insight analyst Geoff Blaber.

“The company has developed a highly valuable asset in webOS. The challenge for Palm is finding a buyer prepared to pay a premium for an immature platform when many potential suitors have already invested heavily in Android,” he added further.

Earlier, the major technology companies like Dell, Microsoft Corp. and mobile handset makers like Nokia and Motorola, were also cited as potential buyers.

Why Palm failed to impress people?

The first and the foremost reason was its poor marketing. The ads were confusing and some even considered them crappy.

Another blunder was to link its Pre smartphone with Sprint network, which already had several glitches. Additionally, the price tag of $199 for its Pre was high enough to dissuade buyers. Also, when it comes to applications available to the buyers, Palm is behind Apple.

At the CTIA Wireless Expo 2010, the company has revealed what is said to be the most equipped, fully load Android gadget until now. Hail the Samsung’s latest and most powerful Android based gadget i9000 Galaxy S. Here’s a rundown of what the feature packed i9000 has in store for you…

To start with, the hi-tech i9000 features a 4-inches super AMOLED 800 x 480 pixel screen. This feature makes this phone Samsung’s biggest touchscreen phone till date. Even the Omnia HD has only 3.7 inch wide screen. Another remarkable feature of the screen is mobile Digital Natural Imagine engine, a technology that improves image quality on screen. Samsung has earlier used this technology in its LCD and LED TVs.

The device runs on Android 2.1 and is powered by ‘1 Ghz’ processor. i9000 will support HD video playback and a feature known as the ’social hub’, which will enable a single point access to various social networking sites. It will also feature the Swype virtual QWERTY and Thinkfree, a software which is used to open and edit MS office 2007 documents.

Besides, the phone comes with a 5 mega pixel camera and supports aGPS, Bluetooth 3.0 and WI-Fi B/G/N too. It also has an accelerometer. For now, the company has neither committed any time for the release of this product nor it has mentioned about its price.

Sony, the Japanese electronic giant, has fixed the bug that stalled play for scores of gamers using older model of PlayStation 3, also called PS3 gaming console a day before. According to the Sony, the interruption had been caused by a bug in the console’s watch which recognized 2010 as a leap year.

 On Monday, Sony requested the users of PS3’s ‘Fat’ model to stop using the console as it could cause errors in some function or the loss of data.

 The bug however has not affected the newer ‘Slim’ version of the PS3 which was launched in September 2009.

 ”Having the internal clock date change from 29 February to 1 March (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally,” Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold said on the PlayStation blog.

 Sony has advised PS3 users to adjust the clock setting manually if the problems of connecting to internet or in playing games still persists.

In a constant fight to woo back the netizens who are spending quite a considerable time on social networking sites, internet portal Yahoo made a deal with twitter to share content across both sites. In December last year yahoo reached a similar agreement with Facebook to make the sharing of status updates and other information easier of users.

There are millions of messages posted on twitter every minute. “The information in one single tweet can travel light years farther with this Yahoo integration,” Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said in a statement. “Tweets in more places brings relevance where and when you need it most.”

This deal exhibits Yahoo’s keen interest to tap into the expanding social nature of the internet. Social networking is a trend started by Facebook and Twitter, the sites which have become major forces in directing and driving online traffic. To cash in on the rise of social networking Yahoo offered $1 billion plus takeover offer to Facebook, which the later rebuffed.

The alliance between Twitter and Facebook will roll out by the end of this year. This deal will allow users to access material form both sites without having to leave either one, said Jim Stoneham, vice president of communities for Yahoo. To be more specific, this will enable users to see their twitter feed on Yahoo’s sites.

Users will now be able to update their Twitter status and share information and other content from Yahoo, while the Yahoo search and media properties will show Twitter updates.

The Twitter feeds will instantly appear in the Yahoo search results. By showing Twitter’s real time updates yahoo will offer fresh, relevant and more engaging information to its users. Twitter, like Facebook is a great deal for Yahoo due to its tremendous growth over the recent times. Yahoo has recently signed two search deals worth $25 million with Microsoft and the internet search giant Google.

“We are focusing on making Yahoo where you can stay in touch with people and information in one place,” he said.
